Hi, I'd like to put together some ideas of where to go for a weekend getaway in the mountains. Last year a friend and I accidentally went to a small village in the mountains - no reservations, we just went “wherever we wanted to go”. We stayed in a local's house, and next to it was a trail to the top, where we had a view of the valley. No preparation at all, but that's what made the trip special. Maybe someone has similar spontaneous but cool outings?

That's a great story! I'm closer to spontaneous trips like this too, rather than having everything mapped out in advance. When I started Idaho living, I discovered a lot of places to go on weekends. One of the most memorable was a trip to the Sawtooth Mountains. We kayaked there and spent the night by the lake. You wake up in the morning and it's just nature, mountains, and water. I didn't realize there was so much to see within a couple hours drive. If you're looking for ideas, check it out - there are a lot of locations that are great for short outings.
